‘ALL NATIONS FESTIVAL’ held in Berlin
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin, for the ninth consecutive year, participated in the ‘ALL NATIONS FESTIVAL’ held in Berlin on 4th July 2009 from 1000 hrs. to 1900 hrs. in the Chancery premises.
The doors of the Embassy were opened to the German Public and the Sri Lankan expatriate community to have a glimpse of the country. The Open Day in summer is one of the regular calendar events of the Embassy’s promotional activities.
The Festival showcases the diversity and the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka and promotes it as a destination for tourism, trade and investment. The Chancery and its garden were turned into a mini Sri Lankan bazaar showcasing artefacts, handicraft, Sri Lanka Gems and Jewelleries, culinary delights,
Ayurveda products, Siddhalepa products, Ceylon tea and live music.
Art Exhibition by Sri Lankan Artists who are domiciled in Germany was another attraction for all visitors. Among Artists, Mr. Ariyadasa Kandege, Mr. Gamini Danwatte Liyange Mrs. Aranka Chandrasiri and Mr. Paramalingam, a Sri Lankan origin Tamil Artist were significant.
The Sri Lankan Airlines and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau ‘information Stalls’ attracted many visitors to gather information on tourism and the national carrier. With the assistance of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development and the Tourism Promotion Bureau, tourism promotional films were screened through out the day for the visitors.
‘Sri Lankans Against LTTE Terror – Germany’ participated with home made traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry, which was popular among the German visitors. The fund raised by selling food is expected to be donated to the ‘API WENUWEN API FUND’.
Another highlight of the day’s events was the Sri Lankan music and traditional dance performances, by the children of Sri Lankan expatriates living in Berlin, which made the day more colourful. A Tamil classical dance performed by Ms. Shauthri Sahtyakanthan fascinated the event. A spectacular performance of traditional drumbeats received the ovation of the crowds.
The cultural event of the Open Day Programme at the Embassy was organised with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Association – Berlin.
The Open Day at the Embassy drew massive crowds and the visitors were overwhelmed by the warmth and friendly atmosphere experienced by them.
