‘No ceasefire under any circumstances’, reiterates President Rajapaksa

While there were reports in certain sections of the media yesterday that the government was considering a ‘pause’ in the assaults on remaining Tiger held areas to facilitate the evacuation of civilians to safer areas, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said there will not be a ceasefire. The Government will not go in for any ceasefire with the LTTE under any circumstances, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. “We will not cave in to pressures from any international quarters either locally or internationally and we will not stop until the war is completely over,” he said.

He said that the delay in finishing the war was due to the Security Forces being asked to exercising restraint in the conflict zones which has civilians forcibly held as human shields by the LTTE.
